Students quarantined out of an abundance of caution

08/20/2020 10:50 am

On Wednesday, August 19, a student presented with COVID-19-related symptoms. That student has taken a COVID-19 test, and we are awaiting the results. In the meantime and out of an abundance of caution, we quarantined 31 students who had close contact with this individual during a student-initiated pick-up basketball game.  This swift response demonstrates our commitment to the plans of action we have in place to respond quickly and effectively to any and all symptoms of COVID and ensure the safety of our campus community. We want to reiterate that the results of the test are pending and that there is currently no confirmation of COVID on our campus at this time.

It remains our top priority to deliver the Rockford University experience to students with all precautions and measures in place to keep our campus safe and healthy.  As stated in our fall opening plans, we promised to be transparent with communications and responsive to any changing circumstances.

To protect our campus community, most classes have been designed with a blended curriculum that allows both remote and face-to-face learning while adhering to social distancing guidelines (including proper distancing and masks). Coupled with this approach to learning, we have enhanced cleaning and sanitation protocols in place, and will continue to enforce expectations for students, faculty, and staff to do their part to protect the health and safety of our Rockford University family.
