Our hope is that all members of our campus become an active participant in our evolving digital community. Rockford University accounts are issued to all University faculty, staff, and students to access online tools. Individuals are provided with a username and password necessary to access the Internet, email, personal space on network servers, and other computing resources.

Information Technology Use Policy

Rockford University’s Information Technology (IT) supports the academic mission of the University by providing access to technology resources, facilities, and information essential to teaching, learning, research, and general scholarship. The IT Center, located in the lower level of the Howard Colman Library, is responsible for maintaining the infrastructure, facilities and resources of the campus network, computer labs, and technology services. Important Rockford University Technology Tools

  • my.rockford.edu
    “my.rockford” is the Rockford University Portal that provides community members with single-sign-on access for email, moodle, Self-Service and is the campus communication platform for events, important dates and alerts. The Portal also has resources available from all University departments.
  • Outlook Webmail (OWA)
    Outlook webmail application, or OWA, serves as a one stop shop for our Rockford University email system. If you need access to your RU email, it can be found here.
  • Self-Service
    Self Service provides our learning community at Rockford University with “anytime, anywhere” access to key information services. Self-Service provides the online tools necessary to access up-to-date records of course schedule, financial aid, grades, and registration.
  • Canvas
    Canvas is our online learning management tool. It is used to support blended and online learning at Rockford University. Canvas is web-based, mobile-friendly and used by faculty to post online course activities and resources.
  • RU Alert
    RU Alert is a subscription-based emergency alert system, available through the Rockford University Portal, for students, faculty, and staff at Rockford University. In the event of an emergency, the University community will be quickly informed of such through recorded voice phone messages sent to landline and/or cell phones, text messages, and e-mail messages. In addition, alerts will be posted on the Portal, public website, and sent to the news media.

Campus Computer Labs

We have several computer labs available for use by members of our campus community:

  • 104C Starr Science Building
    The General Computer Lab (GL) contains seventeen PCs with access to the internet, printing, the Microsoft Office Suite and software commonly used by our professors in the classroom. The GL hours are: Monday through Thursday 7:45 AM – 10:00 PM and Friday  7:45 AM – 5:00 PM. This lab is supported by a Lab Assistant during open hours. This lab is closed for the summer session.
  • PURI School of Business
    The PURI School of Business features an open environment with sixteen computers with access to the internet, printing, Microsoft Office Suite, and software used in the EBA department. This area is supported by the Puri front desk attendant during school operation Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Open hours are in effect for the summer session, but there is no attendant.
  • Colman Library 
    There are 27 computers located on the first floor of the Howard Colman Library with access to the internet, printing, the Microsoft Office Suite. It is open concurrently with the library and is staffed and supported by the library staff. They maintain hours concurrent with the library during the summer session.
  • Burpee Student Center (BSC) 
    We have four computers located in the first level of the new BSC. These have access to the internet, printing, and the Microsoft Office Suite. These machines are open concurrently to the BSC and are supported by the BSC front desk attendant. During summer session, they maintain hours concurrent with the BSC.

Campus Computer Classrooms

In addition to our labs and open areas, Rockford University offers several classrooms outfitted with individual computers for instructional use. Each lab contains 20 student machines, as well as a projector and screen for the instructor. The rooms in Starr Science also have an instructional laptop. They are:

  • PURI School of Business – Business Lab
  • Scarborough – Computer Classroom 4
  • Starr Science Building – Rooms 104D and 108C
  • Clark Arts – Maclab

Wireless Internet Access

WiFi access is available in all academic buildings, residence halls and administration buildings. Members of the Rockford University community can log into the ‘Rockford’ wireless network with their username and password.

IT Help Desk

The IT Help Desk is located in the lower level of the Howard Colman Library (east entrance). The Help Desk is staffed Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Students may request assistance by calling the Help Desk at 815-226-4127 or via email at support@rockford.edu. Additionally, technology guides are available on the Portal to assist students with the following: Password Management System, forwarding RU email, and setting up RU email on a mobile device.
