Graduate Assistant, Hall Director

Rockford University is currently accepting applications for a Graduate Assistant: Hall Director position(s) to begin for the Fall Semester, 2026.

The Graduate Hall Director for Residence Life oversees a residence hall of approximately 90 students, providing leadership, daily operational support, and supervision of 4–5 Resident Assistants. This live-in position reports to the Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Residence Life and requires accessibility to students and staff. Responsibilities include fostering an inclusive community, supporting student development, promoting engagement through dining participation, and ensuring a safe, comfortable living environment aligned with the University’s mission.

Graduate Assistants are required to work 30 to 40 hours per week and will receive room and board, a monthly stipend and up to 21 hours of tuition remission per academic year.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Support & Advising: Counsel and refer students on personal and academic matters while monitoring and documenting concerns.

Leadership & Community Development: Foster an inclusive, academically supportive residential community through programming, collaboration with campus partners, and support of Residence Life initiatives, including summer housing and facility operations.

Supervision: Oversee 4–5 Resident Assistants, including hiring, training, development, regular meetings, and performance evaluation.

Crisis Management & Conduct: Address low-level conduct violations, respond to emergencies, participate in an on-call rotation, and serve as a Campus Security Authority.

Administrative Duties: Manage multiple priorities, maintain strong communication, support budgeting and reporting processes, assist with communications and social media updates, attend meetings, and collaborate across campus departments.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Enrollment in a graduate studies program at Rockford University.
  • Ideal candidate will have undergraduate experience in student life/student development and be familiar with residential living/co-curricular activities in higher education.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
  • Experience in a variety of social media.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license and personal auto insurance.
  • Must meet driver insurance eligibility standards of the University.
