Le Pact des Loups demonstrates views of nature are socially constructed, particularly in concerns of respecting nature.
Reflections of Loko Miwa by Lilas Desquiron was first published in the year 1990. The novel is set in Haiti during the rule of Papa Doc. Throughout the book, Haiti’s complex social and cultural constructs are highly evident.
Jennifer Hawk
This is a reaction to the novel Reflections of Loko Miwa. It discusses class and and the social hierarchy of the time in Haiti.

This book is a great read and reflection of Haitian culture, the religion of Vodou and a bond between Marassa sisters. This also goes into the idea of the Zombi.

In the fall of 2019, our department launched the critical journal, Deinós. Scholarly criticism, both in text and in practice, brings together the capacity for interpretation and intuition, demanding from scholars the intellectual flexibility and adaptability called for by their object of analysis. Deinós is a space, precisely, to read, to write and to emphasize how beauty can be, sometimes, the beginning of terror.

The Languages, Literatures and Cultures Department regularly engages in short-term study abroad trips (two to three-weeks in duration). Our most common destinations are Paris, France; Rome, Italy; and Santiago, Chile. Students visit museums, meet writers and intellectuals and experience the cultures they have read about in a deep and meaningful way. These trips are usually linked to upper-level class work for French, Classics and Spanish majors.
Students can also study in Spain for a semester or year. We have a direct exchange with the Universidad Santiago de Compostela. The following link will let you know more about the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela and the lovely city in which it is located.
