Art Gallery Director

Rockford University seeks to hire an Art Gallery Director within the Department of Art & Art History. The Rockford University Art Gallery hosts 2 exhibitions per semester (not including the annual Senior Show), the curatorial duties, facilitation, and installation of these exhibits are the responsibility of the Gallery Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

* Serve as the contact person and host of the gallery
* Set the exhibition schedule for the current academic year
* Curate exhibitions for the upcoming academic year
* Install exhibitions, including hanging, labeling and lighting
* Communicate with artists regarding exhibitions
* Dialogue with Art Department faculty members about the exhibition schedule and future needs
* Facilitate creation and mailing of exhibition postcards
* Dialogue with newspapers and other media outlets when necessary
* Host and oversee all gallery receptions
* Schedule reception refreshments
* Schedule and oversee coverage of gallery hours
* Network with the greater art community
* Facilitate shipping and/or transport of the artwork
* Schedule artist talks and/or demonstrations
* Plan, schedule, and facilitate “Heart Art” fundraiser once every two years

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Gallery Director will be responsible for supervising the Gallery’s student employees who serve as Gallery guards and installers.
