Application Requirements for International Students
Required of all applicants:

  • Completed written application
  • $50 application fee (US dollars)
  • Proof of financial support
  • Personal essay

Additional information required for all First-Year International Students

  • Two (2) letters of recommendation
  • Official scores from either the SAT or ACT (native English speakers), or  
  • Official scores from either the TOEFL or IELTS-academic (non-native English speakers)
  • Official copy of high school diploma or equivalent
  • Foreign credential evaluation of transcripts if schooling was from outside the US

Additional information required for all Transfer International Students

  • Two (2) letters of recommendation
  • Official scores from either the SAT or ACT (native English speakers), or  
  • Official scores from either the TOEFL or IELTS-academic (non-native English speakers)
  • Official copy of transcripts from any college or university attended
  • Foreign credential evaluation of transcripts if schooling was from outside of the US

Additional information required for all Graduate International Students

  • Three (3) letters of recommendation
  • Official scores from either the TOEFL or IELTS-academic (non-native English speakers)
  • Official scores for appropriate graduate-level examinations
    • GMAT scores for Masters of Business Administration
    • GRE scores for Masters of Arts in Teaching
  • Official copy of college or university transcripts
  • Foreign credential evaluation of transcripts if schooling was from outside the US

Testing Requirements
International applicants must submit official scores for

  • The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the ACT assessment (ACT) for native English speakers OR THE
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System-academic (IELTS) for non-native English speakers
  • The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) for applicants entering the MBA program or the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) for the MAT program

Please note: If you plan to register for one of the above tests, be sure to include the Rockford University school code to ensure we receive a copy of the results.

English Language Proficiency Requirement
Applicants whose native language is not English must provide evidence of English language proficiency. The English proficiency requirement may be fulfilled by meeting one of the following:

  • Minimum score of 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 79 (internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
  • Minimum overall band of 6.0 on the *International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - academic version
  • Students with a TOEFL score of 547 (paper-based), 210 (computer-based), or 77 (internet-based) or an overall band of 5.5 on the IELTS (academic version) may be considered for conditional admission.

Exemptions to the English testing requirement:

  • Applicants whose native language is not English but choose to take the SAT, receiving a score ≥ 890 (Critical Reading & Math only) or take the ACT, receiving a score ≥ 19 (with no subscores lower than a 17)
Foreign Credential Evaluation
Applicants who have graduated from high school outside the US (first-year student); or have completed levels of higher education outside the U.S. (transfer student) must submit a Foreign Credential Evaluation of your academic transcripts and degree certificate.
