For Performing Arts Professor Jeff Hendry, it’s the curiosity of students that has made his three decades of teaching at Rockford University fly by. "The majority of our students want to get as much as they can out of their university experience,” he says, "They do more than come to a lecture hall and take notes; they are very engaged and involved.”
Jeff credits RU’s small class sizes for allowing him to, as he says ". . . make more of a difference,” adding, "The students are here because they want to be here. Many are first-generation university students, and that provides for them an even deeper motivation.”
All performing arts students are required to take core classes across the three academic divisions, as well as in their chosen discipline. In performing arts, this breadth of exposure develops in them an appreciation for all areas of theatrical production. Jeff explains, "It provides an enormous amount of flexibility in their professional work, while informing their personal lives; technical theater majors are required to take acting classes and vice versa, nurturing in every student a respect for what other people do.” That is why Jeff is a Rockford University Rock Star Professor.
