As the Assistant Dean of Students/ Director of Residence Life, I directly oversee the Residence Life staff and department as well as the students living on campus.

Residence Hall Director, Cummings Complex

Mattsen grew up in the small town of Pine Island, Minnesota and moved to Madison, Wisconsin to get his degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin.

As the Residence Hall Director (RHD) of the Cummings Complex, Mattsen oversees the community development and operations of Emerson Hall, Barnes Hall, Talcott Hall, and Lathrop Hall.

My experience working in higher education, specifically residence life, played a large role in my undergraduate education. I came to Rockford University to play an important role in the lives of students, helping them be truly prepared for the life they have ahead.

Jonathan Milton

Residence Hall Director, Small Houses

Jonathan grew up in Heyworth, Il before moving to Carlinville, Il where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Blackburn College.

As the Residence Hall Director (RHD) of Small Houses, Jonathan oversees the community development and operations of Caster, Dayton, Ekvall, Olson, and Svenson resident halls. In addition to those undergraduate resident halls, he also manages McPhail hall for graduate housing.

I chose to work in residence life because I enjoy being a part of the journey students take through undergrad and graduate school. I challenge everyone to embrace the immense amount of opportunity that Rockford University has to offer.

Resident Assistants

Resident Assistants (RA) are upper-class student leaders who are carefully selected and trained to help foster a learning-living environment in the residence halls at Rockford University. The RA’s are assigned a high degree of responsibility in working with the students and administration to create and maintain a safe, productive community in the halls.

RA’s are also on the front lines of assisting new students in making the transition to university life as smooth as possible. Through various activities, RA's help students adjust to life at Rockford University by putting on programs that encourage students to develop and master life skills such as problem solving and critical thinking while developing their individuality. Your RA will be there to listen to and answer your questions (or refer you to someone who can), and take a genuine interest in you as a person. Your RA will also confront you if you are violating policy and will ask you to confront each other when someone else's behavior is a problem.

Resident Assistant's are generally selected towards the end of the spring semester. If you are interested in becoming a RA we encourage you to look over the application and speak with a current RA.
