To hear Ashley Eggert, a junior Biochemistry major speak about her future, it is difficult not to envy her resolve. "I’m going to be a doctor or a surgeon,” she says, "and specialize in either the emergency room or plastic surgery.” When asked to expand on her interest in plastic surgery, she replies "I want to help people who have suffered traumatic injuries, especially to their face, because that’s where people carry so much of their confidence.”
A Pfeffer Scholar, Ashley has been ‘bleeding purple’ since she first arrived on campus two years ago. She knows that Rockford College is so much more than a few buildings assembled on a campus. "I don’t call where I grew up ‘home’ anymore; when I say I’m ‘going home,’ I mean I’m going to Rockford College. This is my home,” she says.
This past summer, Ashley took a very large step away from home to Paris, France. During a faculty led research project she interviewed medical professionals to compare and contrast their universal healthcare system against the U.S. system of private healthcare. She says, "To have the first-hand opportunity was invaluable, and I’ll carry that experience with me the rest of my life.”
Ashley is commitment to giving back. "I feel it’s my duty to do what I can to ensure future students have the same opportunities I did.” That is why she is one of this year’s Rockford University Rock Stars.
