Entering Rockford University as a freshman Presidential Scholar, Angela Conkle declared her major in Biochemistry to pursue her dreams of becoming a doctor. However, she discovered a passion for business during her sophomore year. She added a minor in Business Administration to her degree, and five years after graduating, Angela returned to RU to pursue a
Master’s in Business Administration.
"I knew I wanted to get my MBA, and my preference had always been Rockford University,” Angela says. With a full time job and a family to consider, she was drawn to the flexibility offered at Rockford University. "I liked that I could take courses without being fully admitted; it allowed to me to get a sense of the program and decide if it was a good fit,” she says.
It was a good fit. While she’s been impressed with the small class sizes and one-on-one relationships with professors, Angela points to the amount of applied knowledge gained throughout the courses as one of its greatest features. "It really opened my eyes to leadership styles and what to look for in a leader and manager,” she says.
Angela will graduate in December of 2012 with her MBA. Since being enrolled in the program, she has received two promotions and attributes these successes to what she has learned here, saying "There is a lot of instruction out there on what not do to. At RU, the focus is always on what to do. It’s very empowering; you feel ready for anything.” This is why she is one of this year’s Rockford University Rock Stars.
