Web print instructions for Staff and Faculty

1) Web printing can only print certain document formats (PDF, MS Office files).
2) Web printing is not available off-campus and only available on the “Staff & Faculty” or “Rockford” wireless networks.
3) Web printing can only be used on certain printers. The availble printers are:

  • Colman-IT Center
  • Lang Faculty
  • Puri Business School (5100 BSMS) Room 103
  • Scarborough Faculty Lounge
  • Starr 216
  • Starr 412
  • Clark Arts – MPR

4) Please note, you will see a cost for printing the job. This is part of project to track student printing and does not affect faculty and staff. You can safely ignore the cost.

Step 1) Navigate to ‘’.
Step 2) You will be prompted for your RU login and password. Enter them and click ‘Log in’
Step 3) Click on the ‘Submit a Job’ button.
Step 4) Choose your printer from the group of available printers. Select ‘Print Options and Account Selection’.
Step 5) Decide how many copies you need to print and select ‘Upload Documents’.
Step 6) Upload your document by either dragging or clicking the “Upload from Computer” button. Select ‘Upload & Complete’.
Step 7) Pick up your printed document at the printer your selected!

Gaming Systems / Smart TV’s – Updated 9/14/2017


At this time the following game systems and devices work, but require a static IP from IT to function:


  • PS3 / 4
  • Wii / Wii U
  • Xbox 360 / Xbox One


Additionally, NEW Apple TV’s will work, but must be brought to IT to be configured prior to use.


Google Chromecast will never be compatible with our network. It allows any user to hijack your device and change what you are watching. They are best used for individual/private networks.


Roku are now working, and they offer an app for the new Philo streaming television. Please stop in for support on getting your Roku device or enabled TV working.


We had also previously stated that Amazon Fire Stick needed a static IP. The Amazon Fire Stick works but requires you to use your userid/password the same way you do on your laptop and/or phone.

The support of the IT Staff

Our hope is that all members of our campus become an active participant in our evolving digital community. Rockford University accounts are issued to all University faculty, staff, and students to access online tools. Individuals are provided with a username and password necessary to access the Internet, email, personal space on network servers, and other computing resources.

Information Technology Use Policy

Rockford University’s Information Technology (IT) supports the academic mission of the University by providing access to technology resources, facilities, and information essential to teaching, learning, research, and general scholarship. The IT Center, located in the lower level of the Howard Colman Library, is responsible for maintaining the infrastructure, facilities and resources of the campus network, computer labs, and technology services. IT policies promote access while preserving resources. Read the entire Information Technology Use Policy 


Policy on Copyright Infringment and File Sharing

It is a violation of federal law and Rockford University Policy to share and/or distribute copyrighted materials without the permission of the copyright holder. Action taken by the University to remedy a violation does not preclude the copyright holder from seeking civil and/or criminal prosecution for copyright infringement. The law specifies civil liability of litigation costs, attorney fees, and actual damages, or statutory damages of $750 to $30,000 for each work infringed, and, under certain circumstances, criminal penalties up to $250,000, and/or imprisonment for up to 10 years (17 U.S.C. 501-511; 18 U.S.C. 2319). In addition, those who assist another with infringement of copyright material may be held liable under a legal doctrine known as “contributory infringement” (Sony Corp. v. Universal Studios, 464 U.S. 417, 435, 104 S.Ct. 774, 785, 78 L.Ed.2d 574 (1984)). See the full notice below:

Important Rockford University Technology Tools

    “my.rockford” is the Rockford University Portal that provides community members with single-sign-on access for email, moodle, Self-Service and is the campus communication platform for events, important dates and alerts. The Portal also has resources available from all University departments.
  • Self-Service
    Self Service provides our learning community at Rockford University with “anytime, anywhere” access to key information services. Self-Service provides the online tools necessary to access up-to-date records of course schedule, financial aid, grades, and registration.
  • Canvas
    Canvas is our online learning management tool. It is used to support blended and online learning at Rockford University. Canvas is web-based, mobile-friendly and used by faculty to post online course activities and resources.
  • RU Alert
    RU Alert is a subscription-based emergency alert system, available through the Rockford University Portal, for students, faculty, and staff at Rockford University. In the event of an emergency, the University community will be quickly informed of such through recorded voice phone messages sent to landline and/or cell phones, text messages, and e-mail messages. In addition, alerts will be posted on the Portal, public website, and sent to the news media.

Campus Computer Labs

We have several computer labs available for use by members of our campus community:

  • 104C Starr Science Building
    The General Computer Lab (GL) contains seventeen PCs with access to the internet, printing, the Microsoft Office Suite and software commonly used by our professors in the classroom. The GL hours are: Monday through Thursday 7:45 AM – 10:00 PM; Friday and Saturday 7:45 AM – 4:00 PM; Sunday 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. This lab is supported by a Lab Assistant during open hours. This lab is closed for the summer session.
  • PURI School of Business 
    The PURI School of Business features an open environment with sixteen computers with access to the internet, printing, Microsoft Office Suite, and software used in the EBA department. It is open concurrently with the building: Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.; Saturday 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM; and is closed on Sunday. This area is supported by the Puri front desk attendant Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM and Friday 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Open hours are in effect for the summer session, but there is no attendant.
  • Colman Library 
    There are 27 computers located on the first floor of the Howard Colman Library with access to the internet, printing, the Microsoft Office Suite.It is open concurrently with the library and is staffed and supported by the library staff. They maintain hours concurrent with the library during the summer session.
  • Burpee Student Center (BSC) 
    We have seven all-in-one computers located in the first level of the new BSC. These have access to the internet, printing, and the Microsoft Office Suite.These machines are open concurrently to the BSC and are supported by the BSC front desk attentendant. During summer session, they maintain hours concurrent with the BSC.


Campus Computer Classrooms

In addition to our labs and open areas, Rockford University offers several classrooms outfitted with individual computers for instructional use. Each lab contains 20 student machines, as well as a projector and screen for the instructor. The rooms in Starr Science also have an instructional laptop. They are:

  • PURI School of Business – Business Lab
  • Scarborough – Computer Classroom 4
  • Starr Science Building – Rooms 104D and 108C
  • Clark Arts – Maclab

Wireless Internet Access

WiFi access is available in all academic buildings, residence halls and administration buildings. Members of the Rockford University community can log into the ‘Rockford’ wireless network with their username and password.

IT Help Desk

The IT Help Desk is located in the lower level of the Howard Colman Library (east entrance). The Help Desk is staffed Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Students may request assistance by calling the Help Desk at 815-226-4127 or via email at Additionally, technology guides are available on the Portal to assist students with the following: Password Management System, forwarding RU e-mail, and setting up RU email on a mobile device.
