The Performing Arts Department at Rockford University seeks a visionary, strategic, and highly collaborative Assistant or Associate Professor of Musical Theatre to; an educator/artist with an emphasis in direction, choreography, and movement to begin Fall 2024. The ideal candidate will have eight to ten years of academic and/or professional experience and the expertise and desire to guide the department in revamping its musical theater program.

Responsibilities include teaching musical theater performance and dance technique classes, supervising musical theater capstone projects, and directing/choreographing one or two main stage productions each year. Opportunities also exist to direct plays, create interdisciplinary courses, and teach other theater courses, including Music Theater History. While outside professional endeavors are encouraged, primary focus must be instruction and mentorship.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. MFA in Musical Theatre or Theatre or equivalent professional experience;
  2. successful college-level teaching experience preferred;
  3. extensive and varied artist-level performance, directing, and choreography experience; and
  4. an educational philosophy compatible with that of a private institution in a liberal arts environment.

The Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics Department at Rockford University (RU) seeks qualified candidates for a full-time academic year teaching position starting January 2024. This position comes with a benefits package and may be continued into future years. The qualified candidate must hold, at minimum, a Master’s Degree in Physics or a related field. A Ph.D. is preferred but not required, ABD candidates are encouraged to apply.

This is a teaching position for lower and upper-level undergraduate teaching in Physics. The Physics program at RU has a minor and is responsible for teaching general education and other service courses. A typical teaching load is 15 load hours per semester. Other responsibilities include attending department, college, and faculty meetings. The successful candidate with receive mentorship within the department and RU. They will also have the opportunity for curricular and programmatic input.

Rockford University seeks candidates for a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in history, appointment effective Fall 2024. The successful candidate will have a strong background in non-Western (i.e. not European or US) and European history. Responsibilities include teaching the World History survey, introductory and upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of specialty, and courses in service to the major. Time period of specialization is open.

Excellent teaching ability is a must and candidates need an educational philosophy compatible with a private, independent institution and liberal arts-based curriculum. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but not limited to:

  • Main contact for all rental companies to discuss their technical requirements and responsible for insuring that all technical and spacial needs are met for each event.

This position will facilitate the recruiting, hiring, training, and supervision of Peer Tutors, Supplemental Instruction Leaders and Professional Tutors, and overseeing testing services.  Other responsibilities of the Academic Support Coordinator will be ensuring accurate data collection, assessment of services and certification/accreditation of the library’s academic support programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but not limited to:

  • Oversee testing services and supervises the Library and Academic Support Specialist.
  • Recruit, hire, supervise and evaluate SI Leaders, Peer and Professional Tutors.
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate training and professional development for peer and professional staff in high-impact practices proven to promote academic success including collaborative learning techniques. 
  • Monitor, complete and submit all requirements for tutoring program certification and supplemental instruction accreditation. 
  • Conduct regular communication, observations, and meetings with SI Leaders, Peer, and Professional Tutors and provide feedback to improve delivery of academic support services. 
  • Provide cross-functional support across the library to support its initiatives and services.

Maintenance worker, part-time

Rockford University seeks to hire a part-time employee to complete general maintenance tasks on a temporary basis. The selected candidate will work up to 24 hours per week, starting at 9 am and working Monday through Friday. Work may be individual or working within assigned areas with a member of the Maintenance, Grounds, or Housekeeping Staff. Perform general maintenance, grounds, or cleaning duties daily, operate hand tools, riding lawn mowers, snow blowers, vacuums, other Facilities equipment as needed, work from a ladder, and perform related duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Operations. Punctuality and attention to detail are critical components of employment. Hours vary according to projects and tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

1. General cleaning: bathroom disinfection, sweeping, dust mopping, damp mopping, vacuuming, dusting, washing windows, and picking up trash in designated areas.
2. Major cleaning: walls, woodwork, doors, light fixtures, carpets and furniture.
3. Work from a ladder, assist in moving furniture (able to lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds).
4. Assist Maintenance personnel with routine repairs as required.
5. Assist with room set-ups and take-downs for events.
6. Operate the following equipment: vacuums and wet vacuums, riding lawn mowers, hand tools such as drills, saws, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, and other equipment as necessary.
