Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer

Rockford University is a four-year, co-educational institution founded in 1847 based in Rockford, Illinois offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in traditional liberal arts and professional fields. The University’s mission is to educate men and women to lead responsible lives by means of a curriculum grounded in liberal arts learning and complemented and extended by professional and practical experience.

The university offers approximately 80 majors, minors, and concentrations, including the adult accelerated degree completion program for a Bachelor of Science in Management Studies. Additionally, degrees are extended to include the Master of Business Administration (MBA), the Master of Education (M.Ed.), and Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT). Further, the Rockford University faculty and curriculum are organized into three distinct colleges.

The University seeks a Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”). The CFO is the executive responsible for the services, staff members, outsourced contract employees, graduate assistants, and functions of the Business Office, Payroll, Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations & Facilities, Scheduling Services, Food Service, Business Support, and the Bookstore.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Overseeing responsibility for the effective and efficient operations of the above-referenced areas
· Providing the President, Executive Council, and Board of Trustees with advice, counsel, recommendations, and reports related to financial matters of the university
· Managing the university’s financial affairs, including all accounting, banking, financial, and investment transactions
· Coordinating annual external audit processes
· Reviewing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
· Preparing budgets, inclusive of the annual budget for over 100 departments and 2,000 accounts
· Administering and developing University policies relating to business and financial activities
· Assuming contract officer areas, working closely with legal counsel on relevant matters
· Attending Board of Trustee meetings, as well as assigned Committee meetings
· Serving on the President’s Executive Council

Desired Qualifications:

· An undergraduate degree and an advanced degree in business administration, finance, financial management, audit/accounting, or a similar field is required
· A CPA is not required but is considered highly advantageous
· At least ten years of senior professional experience in a financial leadership position
· Strong knowledge of not-for-profit accounting and financial reporting requirements
· Acumen in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures
· A demonstrated track record of cross functionally providing advice, counsel, recommendations, and reports related to financial matters
