ESL ACADEMIC CALENDAR

Join us all year round. We begin a new session every two months! If you can’t make it at the beginning of a session, our flexibility allows students to enter at any time and join the current classes in that session. The program is designed to provide “mini-lessons” that give an overview of previous sessions and give assignments that cover prerequisite material to bring students up to speed quickly in classes.
We recommend a minimum of 2 sessions of study for students to realize a clear and considerable improvement in their language skills. Improvement is fully dependent on the student’s commitment and determined work in learning the language. Our instructors focus on teaching learning strategy skills to help students to become autonomous learners. Students will develop a strong foundational knowledge of English and learn studying and language acquisition strategies to assist their continued efforts in learning English.
Our structure:
  • 2 terms per year: spring, and fall
  • 2 sessions per term: spring 1 + 2, fall 1 + 2
  • 8 weeks per session = two months
  • 1 week break at the end of each term

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Ambassador Family

Enrich your family’s life! Learn about new cultures while making lifelong friendships.

What is an Ambassador Family?
This program matches Rockford University International Students with local families to give our new students and families an opportunity to share cultures and build relationships. Students and families will arrange to spend time together. We ask families to meet with their students at least twice a month but we encourage them to get together as much as is convenient for both parties. For example, families can invite their student to family dinners, local sightseeing, shopping, holidays and any other events that can improve the students’ experience in Rockford. The initial commitment is for a semester but many families and students elect to remain in contact for years.

Ambassador Families can be any resident of the Rockford area including couples, partners, families with children of various ages and single individuals. After being paired with your student, we will have a brief orientation and a welcome reception at the university to meet and get to know your student.
