Circulation Manager

Rockford University invites candidates for the position of Circulation Manager of the Howard Colman Library. The Circulation Manager oversees and manages day-to-day operations of the library circulation desk and acts as the primary contact for many library users, including students, faculty, staff, and the general public, in addition to supplying interlibrary loan requests and select technical services in collaboration with other library staff.
Essential Job Duties
- Manage the circulation desk, including checking materials in and out, maintaining patron accounts, managing course reserves, complete various consortium-related tasks, such as PrairieCat picklists and reports, and manage the physical collection, including shelf management
- Serve as front line customer service providing basic instruction on use of library building and systems (library catalogue, databases, etc.), equipment (computers, software, printer, scanner, etc.), and policies.
- Monitor trends in library technology and innovation and make suggestions for additional equipment and services.
- Assist with library instruction and student success workshops when needed.
- Oversee student employees, (15-20 students year-round) including hiring, training, and supervising; manage the student worker budget and work with Human Resources and Student Administrative Services to coordinate and complete appropriate forms and reports; schedule student work shifts; provide additional training as necessary
- Have a good working knowledge of the Innovative Software system (Sierra ILS) and especially the circulation functions.
- Demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities in working with faculty, staff and students with diverse backgrounds including academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation, and disabilities.
- Maintain and update training manuals.
- Keep statistics, including floor counts and monthly PrairieCat reports focused on interlibrary loan, reciprocal borrowers, circulation, patron, and other reports.
- Attend library, university, and consortium meetings.
- Serve as primary staff position for interlibrary loan services for print and electronic resources not held by the library or consortium.
- Conduct print serials and monograph management functions, including but not limited to bibliographic record maintenance and updates.
- Collaborates with the Library Director and other professional librarians on any phases of technical services routines and tasks that are integral to accessibility of resources.
- Collaborates with library staff to enhance digital offerings, including maintenance, data collection and digital projects.
- Fill in as required by staff absences or special needs as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent interpersonal skills in working well with the campus community and general public
- Ability to effectively communicate ideas and information in both verbal and written form
- Ability to supervise student employees and delegate responsibility in an effective manner
- Ability to locate and retrieve library materials in a variety of formats throughout the building, as well as from remote locations through networks including the Internet
- Ability to assist patrons with location and retrieval of materials or information by title, subject, and interest of library patrons.
- Knowledge and ability to perform basic computer operations and troubleshoot problems, and to manage an automated circulation system and access external data bases
- Ability to understand and implement instructions and directions
- Ability to establish and maintain proper priorities and meet deadline
- Ability to produce and maintain accurate files and reports
- Ability to use and manage office equipment
- Exercise good judgment in making decisions and solving problems
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and Integrated Library Systems
- Proven customer service skills
- Supervisory experience
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and experience working in a library of similar setting.
Physical Requirements
Some bending, lifting (at least 50 lbs), reaching overhead, stretching
Able to stand for extended periods
