Dr. Michael Houselog is a Visiting Professor in Education primarily teaching classes in Special Education. Dr. Houselog has been a professional educator for 45 years, working as a special education teacher, a Director of Special Education, an elementary principal and school district superintendent. Over the past 35 years, Dr. Houselog has presented on topics in special education at the state and national levels, published in professional journals, and has led building and district initiatives on integration and inclusion of students with special needs in PK-12. Other interests include post high school transition planning, interagency cooperation and collaboration, community based training for students with moderate and severe disabilities, and planning other initiatives designed to foster full participation in school and community life for persons with disabilities. Finally, Michael Houselog’s experience has been in rural, urban, and suburban settings in districts ranging in size from 350 students to 18,000 students. He has been an active community volunteer and Board Member in the greater Rockford/Belvidere region over the past 16 years in organizations such as Swedish American Hospital Board of Directors, Salvation Army of Belvidere, Belvidere YMCA, First Northern Credit Union, Growth Dimension of Boone County, and the Belvidere/Boone County Chamber of Commerce.
