Goetschel joined the Regents in July 2017, after spending the previous four years coaching at the NAIA level including stints at both Judson University and Central Methodist University. Most recently, Goetschel spent the last two seasons as the Head Cross Country Coach and Assistant Track & Field Coach at Judson University. Over the past two years, his cross country teams finished no lower than sixth at the conference championships with the men’s team placing fourth last year. His track and field teams also performed well with the men placing in the top six and the women finishing in the top seven at both the Indoor & Outdoor CCAC Championships. Over the past four seasons, Goetschel has coached twenty-one NAIA National Qualifiers, five NAIA All-Americans and one NAIA National Champion.
Prior to entering the coaching ranks, Goetschel competed at the NCAA Division III level as a member of the cross country and track & field teams at Aurora University. During his four years in a Spartan uniform, the Aurora cross country program steadily improved in the NACC from a sixth place finish at the conference championships in 2009 to winning a NACC Title in 2012 during his senior year. Goetschel was also a member of a steadily improving AU indoor track and field team that won just the program’s second ever NACC Championship in 2013 during his senior year.
