DESCRIPTION:Join the Compliance and Title IX Office and Lang Health\, students\, employees\, and several other campus partners to read a proclamation for taking a stand against domestic violence. With 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men experiencing the impact of domestic violence in their lifetime\, we encourage you to stand in solidarity by reading the proclamation to stand up for\, stand with\, and speak out against this societal issue. \nWednesday\, Oct. 25\, after the campus starts “putting a nail in domestic violence” at 11:30 a.m.\, we will pause for a moment to read the proclamation and pledge at 12:15 p.m. At 12:30 p.m.\, we will witness the launch of “Beautiful\,” a video created by RU Student Michael Jender in recognition of domestic violence awareness and bullying awareness month. He will share the inspiration behind creating the video. The video will be available on the Title IX page after the launch. All activities will be held in The Den area. \n*This is a Student Activities sponsored event and is only open to the Rockford University campus community.

DESCRIPTION:Co-founder and executive director of the Dreamcatcher Foundation\, Brenda Myers-Powell was a product of human trafficking at the age of 14\, when she escaped an abusive home life and learned to navigate the streets of Chicago. She endured continued abuse and addiction for 25 years as a prostitute and survived to mentor young women out of the same path. Now\, Myers-Powell educates on the perils of human trafficking with a raw edge not for the faint of heart. \nPart of Rockford University’s Forum Series\, this free lecture will be offered in Clark Arts Center’s Maddox Theatre on our Rockford campus\, 5050 E. DESCRIPTION:The artist Erin Furimsky will be giving a public lecture about her work in Art History Room 111 in the Clark Arts Center at 5 p.m. Immediately following\, there will be a public reception for her solo exhibition\, “Beneath Repetition” at the Rockford University Art Gallery in the Clark Arts Center from 6-8 p.m. \nErin Furimsky’s meticulous details reflect elements of domesticity\, floral motifs\, and calligraphy. The fullness of the ceramic sculptures give the illusion of buoyancy\, complementing the vivid surface treatment. Fragments and layers accumulate organically across the bulbous surfaces of Furimsky’s sculptures\, leaving a sense of order remaining as the embellishments are coupled with linear patterns and blocks of solid color.

The film focuses on the post-war struggles that veterans Alex Feggestad and James Thew faced when returning home. A Q&A with the filmmakers and the featured veterans will follow the film screening. In addition\, two teacher panelists will address use of oral histories in the classroom. \nThis event is free and open to the general public\, made possible by funding from the Library of Congress.

DESCRIPTION:Visit the gallery from 3-6pm to see Erin Furimsky’s solo exhibition\, “Beneath Repetition” at the Rockford University Art Gallery in the Clark Arts Center. \nErin Furimsky’s meticulous details reflect elements of domesticity\, floral motifs\, and calligraphy. The fullness of the ceramic sculptures give the illusion of buoyancy\, complementing the vivid surface treatment. Fragments and layers accumulate organically across the bulbous surfaces of Furimsky’s sculptures\, leaving a sense of order remaining as the embellishments are coupled with linear patterns and blocks of solid color.

Many people seem to think so\, and they often cite the American experience during World War II as an example: “World War II brought us out of the Great Depression.” “Americans never had it so good\, producing more guns and more butter.” We fought the War to prevent the Axis from establishing fascism throughout large parts of the world. But make no mistake. To fight the War\, Americans had to sacrifice. University of Arizona economics professor Price V. Fishback\, Ph.D.\, talks about both the amazing output of the war effort and how much Americans lived without in the process. It is important to remember\, however\, that the sacrifices in the rest of the world were much larger\, because so little fighting took place on American soil.
