SUMMARY:Gallery Opening: 5 minute Drift by Melissa Leandro
DESCRIPTION:Melissa Leandro 5 minute Drift presents the work of Chicago-based artist Melissa Leandro as she reflects on personal familial and cultural realities that coalesce experiences from her everyday life\nand family histories. Leandro’s exhibition introduces a hodgepodge of domestic vignettes through the use of woven\, quilted and embroidered textiles\, uniquely upholstered furniture\, collaged plastic tablecloths and plaster sculptures created by Leandro and her father. Her practice is shaped by past experiences and relationships; specifically family memories of her mother working as a\nhousekeeper in Miami\, Florida; her grandfather’s farm house in Costa Rica; and her father’s living as a construction worker and builder. Through the process of cyanotype printing and drawing\ntechniques\, Leandro documents her present day collecting of souvenirs\, knick-knacks\, and natural detritus during her travels within and outside of the U.S. She considered the ephemeral nature\nof personal objects\, both treasured and disposable\, and seeks to recognize how they shape her sense of identity.

There are theme teams that have worked to develop initiatives to support each of these themes. Each of the theme teams will hold two open meetings for faculty and staff to present the work done so far and to receive feedback. All sessions will be held in Fischer Chapel. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend at least one session on each of the themes.

DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with the current exhibition 5 minute Drift\, at Rockford University Art Gallery\, Melissa Leandro will be giving a talk.\nWhen: Wednesday April 3\, at 5:15\nWhere: Clark Art Center\, Rm 111\nAfter the talk\, a mini reception with a donation bar will be held in the gallery so guests can have another chance to see the work. \nMelissa Leandro 5 minute Drift presents the work of Chicago-based artist Melissa Leandro as she reflects on personal familial and cultural realities that coalesce experiences from her everyday life and family histories. Leandro’s exhibition introduces a hodgepodge of domestic vignettes through the use of woven\, quilted and embroidered textiles\, uniquely upholstered furniture\, collaged plastic tablecloths and plaster sculptures created by Leandro and her father. \nHer practice is shaped by past experiences and relationships; specifically family memories of her mother working as a housekeeper in Miami\, Florida; her grandfather’s farm house in Costa Rica; and her father’s living as a construction worker and builder. Through the process of cyanotype printing and drawing techniques\, Leandro documents her present day collecting of souvenirs\, knick-knacks\, and natural detritus during her travels aqua melt\, Melissa Leandro\, Jacquard woven cloth\, dye\, foil\, 2018 within and outside of the U.S. She considered the ephemeral nature of personal objects\, both treasured and disposable\, and seeks to recognize how they shape her sense of identity.

DESCRIPTION:Come join the International students at Rockford University as they prepare a wide variety of international dishes for the University’s annual International Food Festival. \nThis event will take place on Saturday\, April 6 from 5 to 8 p.m.\, doors open at 4:30 p.m.\, in Regents Hall\, 2nd floor\, Burpee Center. \nSponsored by Rockford University’s Multicultural Club and the Office of Global Affairs\, the International Food Festival features authentic recipes from over 33 countries like Denmark\, Germany\, Philippines\, Japan\, China\, Sweden\, Turkey\, Syria\, Italy\, Saudi Arabia\, Mexico and France. Members from the Multicultural Club will prepare foods so that visitors can taste home cooked meals from their countries. International entertainment is also planned so that guests can enjoy traditional song and dance while they eat. Rockford University is currently home to more than 112 international students representing 23 countries.
