Villamar\, assistant professor of anthropology and sociology at Rockford University\, will present “Jivaroan Groups\, Anthropologists\, and Stereotypes: Contemporary Images of the Peruvian Awajún and Wampís” at the Burpee Museum of Natural History on Sunday\, March 12. As an applied anthropologist with a Ph.D. from the University of South Florida\, Dr. Villamar will describe his years of research and involvement with the Awajún and Wampís of the western Peruvian Amazon\, the role anthropologists have played in Amazonian studies\, media portrayals and stereotypes of indigenous peoples\, and his most recent research and current projects with Awajún and Wampís activists and professionals.
