Course 5: Leadership, Management, & Governance**
Thursdays, April 27, May 4, 11, 18, 2017. 1:30—4 p.m. Instructor: TBA
This course will discuss the rules, roles, and responsibilities surrounding effective nonprofit leadership and community collaboration, and how to manage for superior performance and collective impact. Emerging issues of the sector and leadership opportunities and challenges will be studied. Additional topics will include: core values, purpose, vision, strategic thinking, planning, effective governance, ethics, measurement for success and the role of advocacy. CEUs for Social Workers and CFREs are awarded for completion of this course.
Instructor: Rena Cotsones
Rena Cotsones, Ph.D. is Associate Vice President of Engagement and Innovation Partnerships for Northern Illinois University. In this role, she works with NIU and regional leaders to create and implement collaborative approaches to advancing economic development and innovation initiatives in Illinois. As head of NIU’s Office of Innovation, Dr. Cotsones oversees the Northern Illinois Innovation Network and EIGERlab, a business innovation and product development center. In 2014, Dr. Cotsones represented NIU and regional partners in accepting UEDA’s Award of Excellence for Talent Development for JiET-A, a collaborative internship/mentorship program supporting the Rockford, Illinois aerospace cluster. Dr. Cotsones is an executive committee member of APLU’s Council for Engagement and Outreach and liaison to the Commission on Innovation, Competitiveness and Economic Prosperity.
**This is the fifth of five courses in the Certificate in Nonprofit Management Program. Courses do not need to be taken in order. Upon successful completion of all five courses (90% overall attendance) participants will receive a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Rockford University.
