Course 2: Financial Management**

Participants will learn fundamental financial concepts and terms, elements of financial statements including the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow, the accounting cycle, and budgeting concepts. The course also covers the independent audit process, the significance of Form 990, financial management decision-making, financial control processes, stewardship of funds, capital project analysis, facilities management, and an overview of nonprofit principles and best practices. CEUs for Social Workers and CFREs are awarded for completion of this course.

Instructor: Brian Huels — Brian is an Assistant Professor at Rockford University where he teaches a variety of accounting courses at the undergraduate and MBA level. In addition to teaching, Brian remains active in the field of accounting, working with many clients (both for-profit and nonprofit). He holds masters degrees in both Accountancy and the Science of Taxation, and holds the credentials CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner). He resides in Rockford with his wife Megan and their two daughters, Ellie (4) and Avery (2).

**This is the second of five courses in the Certificate in Nonprofit Management Program. Courses do not need to be taken in order. Upon successful completion of all five courses (90% overall attendance) participants will receive a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Rockford University.
