Congratulations to our ROCK SOLID REGENT for the week, Leslie Russell from Rochelle, Ill. She is a senior special education major and was nominated by Associate Professor Lynn Stafford. Prior to attending RU Leslie earned her Associate’s Degree from Kishwaukee College. Professor Stafford shared that Leslie is passionate about working with students with disabilities. She enjoys her current work as a paraprofessional and is seeking to complete her initial teacher licensure in record time. She works with at the secondary level where she displays depth of knowledge in the field of special education. Professor Stafford also shared that Leslie “excels in her studies and will be a great asset to the profession.”
Leslie feels that Rockford University is a great place to study because it is close to home and work. Additionally, she is thankful that RU offers classes at night, weekends and online. This allows her to fit her academic goals into her busy schedule. After graduation she plans to work as a special education teacher in the Winnebago school district as well as begin work on her graduate degree. Congratulations Leslie on being a ROCK SOLID REGENT!

Stefaney Kenworthy from Veedersburg, Indiana is our ROCK SOLID REGENT for the week. She is a senior nursing major and was nominated by Lindsay Marosi-Kramer, Residence Hall Director. Stefaney currently serves as a Resident Assistant as well as a member of the RU softball team. Lindsay shared that Stefaney’s ability to create relationships with the students in Ekvall Hall has been key to the success of the community programs in the residence halls. Stefaney has taken the time to have creative programs and bulletin boards. She also serves as an office assistant in the Residence Life Office. Stefaney is consistent in her efforts and has been an awesome role model to other staff members.12/05/2016 11:16 am
Congratulations to our last ROCK SOLID REGENT for this semester, Stephanie Yglesias. Stephanie is a sophomore musical theater major with a minor in dance from Redlands, California. She was nominated my Cassie Hartje from the Admissions Department.
Cassie shared that Stephanie has been a fantastic addition to the Regent Ambassador Program. She is always willing to meet with prospective students and share more about her RU story. She has also been able to advocate for student needs in a respectful and effective manner. Additionally, she is always friendly, positive and dependable.
In addition to serving as a Regent Ambassador, Stephanie is also an active participant in Regents Players, Student Government Association (SGA), Scripters, and Spirit Squad. As a campus leader she serves as the sophomore Senator of SGA, Vice President of Regent Players and Treasurer of Scripters. She feels that RU is a great place to harvest her artistic and intellectual freedoms while also expanding her knowledge of the world. She believes that her voice is easily heard and has a huge impact because of the small RU community. Congratulations to our ROCK SOLID Regent, Stephanie Yglesias.

Robert (Keith) Latham from Sandwich, Illinois is our ROCK SOLID REGENT for the week. Keith is a senior human development major and was nominated by Lindsay Marosi-Kramer, Residence Hall Director. He currently serves as resident assistant as well as a member of the men’s soccer team. Lindsay shares that Keith has been an awesome contributor to the residence life team. He has been able to balance serving as a resident assistant with his academic endeavors, athletic participation and working a campus job.
Keith appreciates the small class room sizes offered at RU. He believes that the individual time professors are able to provide allows students to excel in their studies. Finding a job in his field and attending graduate school after graduation from Rockford University are the current goals for Keith. Congratulations Keith on being a ROCK SOLID REGENT!

Our ROCK SOLID REGENT for the week is Marian del Barrio. Marian is a freshman mathematics major. She was nominated by Dr. Deepshikha Shukla, Assistant Professor of Physics. She is from Madrid, Spain and will be studying at RU for one year.
Dr. Shukla shared that Marian is a perfect representation of an exemplary student. As an international student, not only has she adjusted to our system of education seamlessly, she also continues to excel in her coursework. She is currently one of the top students in her Math and Physics courses. This is not an easy task taking into account the pressure and strain of adjusting to cultural differences. Even though this is her first semester at RU, her peers sing praises of her demeanor and her willingness to help.
Marian plays basketball and is a member of the Robotics Club, Math Club and the Spanish Club. She has also served as a volunteer for a STEM outreach program at the Washington Park Community Center. Marian enjoys studying at RU because faculty, students and staff members are always willing to help you with any issues. At the end of the academic year Marian will return to Spain to continue her studies in Physics and Math. She is a great ambassador for RU and definitely a ROCK SOLID REGENT!

Mercedes Boykin from Belvidere, Illinois is our ROCK SOLID REGENT for the week!
Mercedes is a senior with a double major in sociology and psychology. Prior to attending RU, she was a student a Rock Valley College. Mercedes was nominated by Sanger De Vine, Residence Hall Director. Sanger shares that she is an exemplar student leader. In addition to serving as a resident assistant she also works two part-time off campus jobs while keeping a laser focus on her academic progress. Mercedes enjoys the environment and strong community that RU offers.
She appreciates that her professors know her as a person. She feels like that the student and professor connection creates a great learning environment. She is also thankful that she has been able to make lifelong relationships at RU that probably might not happen at a larger institution. After graduation she would like to continue her education and is currently applying for graduate school.
Congratulations Mercedes on being a ROCK SOLID REGENT!

Our ROCK SOLID REGENT for the week is Elisha Beston.
Elisha is a junior musical theater major. She was nominated by Maria Diemer, Assistant Director of Global Affairs. She is originally from the Republic of Singapore but currently a citizen of Australia and has had the opportunity to travel across the globe. Maria Diemer shared that Elisha is an amazing student with outstanding grades. She not only excels academically, she is also an active member of the drama department. She is President of the Multicultural Club, Muslim Association and an officer in Regents Players.
With all that she does, she always has time for a smile and is willing to help others when asked. Elisha enjoys attending RU because it is “a small but mighty community that provides all of its students with a lot of opportunities” for growth. She loves the small class sizes and that all of her professors really care about her learning and progress in class. Also, Elisha enjoys the beauty of our campus, particularly the pretty fall leaves. After graduation from RU Elisha will be able to remain in America for one year. She hopes to find a job in the United States with a company that will sponsor her work visa and allow her to fulfill her dream of being on stage. Congratulations Elisha on being a ROCK SOLID REGENT!
