Assistant Teaching Professor, English

09/25/2024 9:51 am

Rockford University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor (non-tenure-track) in English. Preferred start date is January 2025, though a start date of Fall 2025 will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D.; candidates who are A.B.D. and have an M.A. will be considered, preferably in rhetoric and composition. Minimum two years’ experience teaching college-level writing at institutions accredited by regionally accrediting associations is required.  The person in this position will be eligible for promotion (to Associate and Full Teaching Professor) based on satisfactory performance.

This faculty member will join a small English department where all members teach first-year writing courses and are dedicated to developing equitable pedagogies. Strong applicants will have a record of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching and/or in their community. We are especially interested in candidates who are dedicated to issues of linguistic justice and candidates with experience teaching first-year writing to developing writers.

This Assistant Teaching Professor will teach 15 credit hours (five 3-hour courses) per fall and spring semester, with occasional opportunities for summer teaching if desired. Courses in our three-course rhetoric sequence (serving both first-year and upper-level students) are currently capped at 16, 18, and 18 students, respectively. The selected candidate will have full voting rights, will have access to the same internal research and travel grants as tenure-line faculty, will attend department, college, and faculty meetings, and will participate in programmatic assessment. No research work is expected or required.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D., ABD, or M.A. in rhetoric and composition (or related field) and a minimum two years’ experience teaching college-level writing at institutions accredited by regionally accrediting associations is required.

To apply

Review of applications will start immediately. Interested candidates should email a curriculum vitae, cover letter, sample syllabi, list of three professional references, and all related transcripts (official upon hire) to HumanResources@rockford.edu.

At Rockford University we are committed to the principle of diversity, equity and inclusion as it relates to building a well-rounded workforce and community.  We are especially interested in candidates who through their professional experience bring contributions to diversity and excellence in the work they do.
