Assistant Professor of Urban Education, Visiting

Rockford University is seeking qualified candidates for a  Visiting Assistant Professor of Urban Education position within the Education Department starting Fall 2024. This is a full-time position. The Education Department at Rockford University offers an Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) approved graduate program which results in an educator licensure, Professional Educator License (PEL) Administrative Endorsement in the Principal, PK-Age 22, and a graduate program in Urban Education for teachers in urban schools aspiring to teacher leadership.

The teaching load is four graduate-level courses (12 hours) per semester. Evening, in-person, and online teaching will be required of the position. This position will support the Director of Urban Education in teaching and mentoring students in the Urban Education Leadership Program or advising graduate students aspiring to teacher leader roles in action research projects.  This position will also work with community/district partners in collaborative efforts.  

Candidate requirements for the Assistant Professor of Urban Education position:

  • Master’s Degree in the appropriate field (preference will be given to those with the appropriate terminal degree (Ph.D. or  Ed.D).
  • Minimum of two years of successful Principal or Teacher Leader experience in an urban school.
  • Successful completion of the training required for evaluation of licensed personnel.
  • Recent college-level teaching experience is highly desirable but not required. 
  • The successful applicant must have an educational philosophy compatible with a private, independent institution with a liberal arts environment.
