Rockford University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in organic chemistry to begin Fall 2019. A Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry or related field is required along with evidence of excellent teaching. The primary focus of the position is effective and enthusiastic teaching in organic chemistry; however we seek to integrate scientific thinking into the broader college curriculum through imaginative courses and faculty collaboration across the disciplines. Therefore, candidates with teaching interests that span other fields (e.g. bio-organic) are encouraged to apply. Passion for teaching in a small-college liberal arts setting is essential. An active program in undergraduate research with students will also be expected. The ACS-certified chemistry program has a nice complement of instrumentation, including FT-NMR (60-MHz), FT-IR, pulsed laser system, GC, GC-MS, HPLC, FPLC, and AA. We graduate about 4-8 chemistry/biochemistry majors each year.
Applications will be reviewed starting January 7, 2019, and be accepted until the position is filled. Materials submitted should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, transcripts (official upon hire), a statement of teaching philosophy and research interests, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to HumanResources@rockford.edu.
