Assistant or Associate Professor of Teacher Preparation, Tenure-track

Rockford University is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor of Teacher Preparation position within the Education Department starting Fall 2024.

The Education Department at Rockford University includes a traditional undergraduate program and a Master of Education in Teaching (MAT) program that lead to a Professional Educator License (PEL) in Illinois.

The teaching load is 12 credits per semester. Nighttime, in-person, and online teaching will be required. This role requires collaborative work with community/district partners, observation of pre-service teachers in the field, and instruction of foundational courses across grade bands.     

Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in the appropriate field (preference will be given to those with the appropriate terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D), a record of successful teaching, and at least five years’ experience in a relevant setting ( K-12 school setting), preferably in the state of Illinois.  Recent college-level teaching experience is highly desirable but not required. The successful applicant must have an educational philosophy compatible with a private, independent institution with a liberal arts environment.

Additional Job Description Requirements:

  • Teach courses in our Teacher Preparation Program
    • Such classes include: Education Psychology, Introduction to Teaching and Learning, Cultivating Classroom Ecosystems, and Student Teaching Seminar
  • Arrange clinical and student teaching placements
  • Support students in their preparation for content tests and other state-driven initiatives
