Adjunct Design Instructor, Fall 2024

Rockford University invites applications for adjunct instructors to teach studio courses in Basic 2D Design, Typography, and Communication Design. These courses explore foundation design elements and principles, typographic methodology, history, theory, technique and the formal language of graphic communications. Students in graphic design courses are instructed in the basic skills of using the Adobe Creative Cloud; and an ability to meld class information with other studio disciplines.

The teaching load is expected to be about 4 hours of face to face time per week per course, with appropriate outside of class time for preparation, etc. Daytime campus-based availability is required. This would be a great opportunity for an aspiring faculty member to be an instructor of record, someone returning to design after a hiatus, or a retiree who wants to enjoy teaching again.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree (or higher) in Graphic Design, Studio Art or related field from an accredited college or university. Prior teaching experience is preferred. Expertise in technologies for instruction including the latest version of the Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign). Enthusiasm for teaching in a small liberal arts university setting is essential.
