December 6, 2018 – Genocide, It’s Not Just Anne Frank

This workshop will delve into the complexities of modern genocide utilizing primary source documents to drive instruction. Attendees will examine the complex role of what defines genocide and how the atrocities that comprise the term evolve. Focus points will include summation and overview of modern world genocides, analysis of American and global response to genocide, and discussion of the role of the survivor in the modern world. Learners will be tasked with taking the lessons from this workshop back to their classrooms and lives to continue to intellectually engage others in this topic in hopes of one day ending atrocities worldwide.

January 26, 2019 – Teaching With Primary Sources Summit

8:30 p.m.-1:00 p.m., Puri School of Business, Rockford University

During this summit local educators will be presented with information from local museums and historical societies in an effort to create connections for learning with primary sources.  Educators and representatives from local organisations will be able to have face to face meetings, in order to create future opportunities for class trips and promote the inclusion of primary source material in classroom instruction.  The summit will begin with a series of short presentations from our guests, followed by hour long break out sessions.

June 17 – 28, 2019
Teaching with Primary Sources Summer Graduate Course (EDUC 510)

1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Room 122 at the Puri School of Business, Rockford University

During the first week, a series of guest speakers will present strategies for accessing and integrating curricula utilizing the digitized primary source materials from the collections of the Library of Congress website. Educators who enroll in the three-credit graduate course will design a unit suitable for their classrooms during the second week.

Stipends for the workshop are available. PDHs will be presented upon the completion of both the workshop and graduate course.
