Academic Support Coordinator

Rockford University invites applicants for the position of Academic Support Coordinator.  The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting the Library’s tutoring and testing programs. This position will facilitate the recruiting, hiring, training, and supervision of Peer Tutors, Supplemental Instruction Leaders and Professional Tutors, and overseeing testing services.  Other responsibilities of the Academic Support Coordinator will be ensuring accurate data collection, assessment of services and certification/accreditation of the library’s academic support programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but not limited to:

  • Oversee testing services and supervises the Library and Academic Support Specialist.
  • Recruit, hire, supervise and evaluate SI Leaders, Peer and Professional Tutors.
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate training and professional development for peer and professional staff in high-impact practices proven to promote academic success including collaborative learning techniques. 
  • Monitor, complete and submit all requirements for tutoring program certification and supplemental instruction accreditation. 
  • Conduct regular communication, observations, and meetings with SI Leaders, Peer, and Professional Tutors and provide feedback to improve delivery of academic support services. 
  • Provide cross-functional support across the library to support its initiatives and services. 
  • Collaborate with the other library staff to ensure accurate collection of data related to academic support services as well as scheduling and publication of services.
  • Collaborate with faculty and identify courses to be assigned academic support. 
  • Collaborate with the Student Success Librarian to develop a comprehensive academic support program.  
  • Demonstrate commitment to diverse, non-traditional, first-generation student population.
  • Promote academic support programs to faculty and students.
  • Monitor, complete and submit all requirements for tutoring program certification and supplemental instruction accreditation. 
  • Ensure data collection, maintenance and reporting as well as assessment of the programs.    
  • Organize, facilitate, schedule, and market academic support events.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a strategic plan for technology integration to enhance delivery of academic support services.   
  • Demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities in working with faculty, staff and students with diverse backgrounds including academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation, and disabilities.
  • Create and evaluate academic support options to meet the needs of students with accommodation plans. 
  • Organize and facilitate student success workshops using SI Leaders and Peer Tutors as participants. 
  • Collaborate with campus partners, including but not limited to Athletics and the Office of Global Affairs, to expand awareness and usage of academic support options.   

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Library and Learning Specialist, Peer Tutors, Professional Tutors, and Supplemental Instruction Leaders 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High energy self-starter; must be able to take initiative with minimal guidance and be comfortable working both as an individual and as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with various stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to teaching and learning, tutorial/learning materials and instructional aids. 
  • Knowledge of integration of technology to facilitate effective teaching and learning to connect with students of all learning styles. 
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations to students, faculty, and administrators.
  • Success in project management as demonstrated through results in efficient and timely manner. 
  • Growth-minded problem solver known for ability to collaborate in a multifunctional area. 
  • Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable collecting, analyzing, and reporting data. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, English, College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Advising or related field.
  • Professional Educator License (PEL) preferred.
  • 1-3 years of full-time professional work experience within higher-education academic support programs such as tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, writing assistance, advising or student support services preferred.
  • Experience in serving diverse student populations with a focus on having a positive impact on student success and retention.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive.
  • Experience using social media as an engagement strategy.
