MARK YOUR CALENDARS for ORIENTATION!

August 16, 2008 through August 19, 2008

Welcome from Brad Knotts, Dean of Students

Welcome to Rockford College!

Can you believe in just a very short time, you will be attending your first college level courses at Rockford College? As you join our community and begin to participate in new academic adventures and campus activities, we hope you will quickly immerse yourself in college life and enjoy the many opportunities offered to you throughout the academic year.

Rockford College student

Many students, faculty, and staff have planned exciting orientation events to show you what it means to be joining Rockford College. You will meet many new friends and learn how to connect yourself to the Rockford College community. This year’s orientation program begins on Saturday, August 16, 2008 with Resident Student Check-In from 8:00 a.m. until Noon and Non-Resident Student Check-In from 9:30 a.m. – Noon in the Burpee Center. Transfer Student Orientation for juniors and seniors will begin at 10:00 a.m. Once you arrive, we ask that you park your vehicles in Lot “A” to check-in. While a variety of events will be offered throughout the day, the first official event for all new students and their families is the Opening Ceremony at 4:00 p.m. in Maddox Theatre, located in the Clark Arts Center.

As dean of students, I encourage you to explore opportunities to engage your professors in spirited classroom discussion, browse the Howard Colman Library for research and enjoyment, participate in intramurals, attend theatrical performances by the Performing Arts Department, and attend athletic events. I would also encourage you to shop in the campus bookstore, enjoy coffee with friends in the Lion’s Den café, join clubs and organizations, attend Homecoming events, enhance your academic skills in the Rockford College Learning Center and Writing Center, and explore volunteer opportunities through the Jane Addams Center for Civic Engagement (JACCE)

This year’s orientation is entitled, “MAKING CONNECTIONS.” Attending New Student Orientation will give you the foundation for your success at Rockford College and help you make the connection to your college. I encourage you to make it a top priority!

I look forward to seeing you on August 16th. Again, welcome to Rockford College and enjoy the rest of your summer! If you have any questions regarding Orientation, call Donnette Tinsley, Director of Student Retention and Coordinator of New Student Orientation at
815-226-4004.

Sincerely,

Bradley R. Knotts,
Dean of Students
