IL Coop Internships vs. Off-Campus Federal Work Study

These are similar programs, as they both are classified as off-campus employment and positions pay a minimum hourly wage of $8.00/hr. Below are the requirements of each program:

Illinois Cooperative Internship Program:
The program is funded through an annual grant from the Illinois Board of Higher Education. This internship is defined as an academically related work and study experience with business, industry, government or other agencies and organizations. The purpose of the grant is to give students the opportunity to support their academic endeavors with less dependency on student loans. Under this program, the hiring agency will be responsible for 33% (non-profit) or 50% (for-profit) of the student employee’s hourly wage and the remainder will be funded through IL Coop grant funds. All IL Coop Internships are located in the local Rockford area.

In order to qualify for the IL Cooperative Internship Program, students must be in good academic standing at Rockford College, they must be an Illinois resident (or parent/legal guardian is a legal resident of Illinois), they have the ability to work up to 15 hours per week and they are looking for practical experience in their field of study.
