Commuter Students
The key to success
as a commuter student is taking full advantage of what is
available and getting the most out of your college experience
by being involved on campus. There are many ways to be involved
on campus such as student employment, leadership workshops,
Student Government Association, and joining a club or organization.
Active
involvement is an important part of the college experience!
Student Activities
is dedicated to assisting our students to have a positive
experience with the multitude of campus activities at Rockford
College. We have designed the following services and programs
to make commuting easier and to help facilitate the connection
to campus life.
Commuter
Student Lounge:
The commuter student
lounge is conveniently located on the first floor of
the Blanche Walker Burpee Center. The lounge is designed
to provide you with a comfortable place to study, hang out
with friends, watch TV, and eat your lunch. The space is
equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, flat-screen TV,
and 2 computers. Don't be afraid to utilize this space while
you are on campus!
Commuter
Student Lockers:
Taking heavy books
from class to class can be difficult. Lockers are available
by the mail desk on the second floor of the Blanche Walker
Burpee Center. If you would like a locker, contact College
Relations on the second level of the Blanche Walker Burpee
Center for more information.
How to
get connected as a Commuter Student:
- Attend the monthly socials that are held in the Commuter
Student Lounge as a way to help connect commuter students
to one another.
- Attend the Clubs & Involvement Fair at the beginning
of each semester to learn about the different student
clubs and organizations. If you are interested in starting
a Commuter Student Club, contact Student
Activities for more information.
- Meet with Kelly
Olson, Coordinator of Student Activities, to learn
about student clubs and organizations, leadership opportunities,
and ways to get involved.
- Attend campus events! This is a great way to get to
know the campus and meet new people.
Some
commuter students simply come to campus, attend class, and
then depart for jobs or home. Others take the opportunity
to become
actively
involved on campus.
