Intramural Handbook & Eligibility
Eligibility for Intramurals at Rockford College
The basic purpose of eligibility rules is to determine eligibility
and to provide an equitable program for the Rockford College
community. These rules are not designed to 'expose' or 'punish'
violators. The rules have been created as a guide to enjoyable
participation rather than a negative procedure. The 'spirit'
is important. To encourage a positive approach it is essential
for each participant to abide by these rules and enlist the
support of all other participants. The result will be a better
experience for everyone.

Only Rockford College students, faculty and staff are eligible
to participate in intramural activities. Students must be registered
for at least one class. Faculty and staff must be registered employees,
paid or otherwise, during the semester in which they participate.
Any student dropping out of Rockford College is immediately ineligible
for further participation. The following restrictions apply:
- No student who is/was a member of a varsity or junior varsity
team at Rockford is eligible to compete in the intramural activity
of that sport during the same academic year. An individual is
considered to be a member if he/she participated with the varsity/junior
varsity team for two weeks (including practice).
- Playing an intramural contest under an assumed name, unsporting
conduct, physical fighting, flagrant violation of the playing
rules or refusal to abide by the rules and regulations of the
IM program may result in loss of eligibility for individual and/or
teams.
- After playing on one team you cannot join another team in the
same sport.
General Rules of Conduct
Sporting Conduct: Successful operation of the IM program
requires that individuals display proper conduct at all times. Unsporting
conduct may result in expulsion and the individual(s) involved will
need to meet with the IM director before he/she is again eligible
to participate. Physical/verbal intimidation or abuse of participants,
officials, or fans will not be tolerated. Serious or repeated occurrences
will result in suspension from all intramural activities. Fighting
is grounds for immediate expulsion. Spitting will be considered
violent behavior and will be grounds for expulsion. Individual’s
willfully destroying or damaging equipment will be billed for the
cost of replacement.
Forfeits: Team captains are held responsible for their
team members. An ineligible player will result in a forfeit loss
of any game(s) in which the ineligible player participated. A team
not present within 5 minutes of the scheduled contest start is a
forfeit. Teams or individuals forfeiting 2 contests will be dropped
from further competition (at the discretion of the IM director).
Protests: All protests must be submitted by the team captain
in writing to the IM director within 24 hours of the event.
Alcohol/Drug Policy: Tobacco, alcoholic beverages and
drugs are not permitted on or around Rockford playing areas during
any IM event. Contests will not be played and will be forfeited
if tobacco, alcohol or drugs are present.
Rules of Competition: Each intramural activity will have
a set of rules for competition that will be specific to the activity.
These rules are available at the IM office located in the Football
Office.
Awards: At the conclusion of an intramural season, champions
shall be awarded an IM T-shirt/trophy.
