Campus Dining Services

Rockford College, in cooperation with Chartwells Food Service, provides healthy meals for members of the Rockford College community. Join your fellow students and members of the faculty and staff in the main cafeteria in Burpee Commons for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

As part of you housing agreement with Rockford College, you are required to subscribe to a meal plan. Matriculating first-year students are automatically assigned the 19 meal plan for the academic year. Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors may choose the 15 or 10-meal plans*. This requirement:

  • Ensures students access to a reasonably priced, high-quality, nutritious meal program.
  • Helps to ensure that food preparation does not take place in the residence halls, which would present health and safety problems.
  • Assists students in managing their time by eliminating the need to shop, prepare, and clean up after meals.
  • Encourages social interaction among all residents.

Chartwells Food Services provides meals when the College is in session and on a limited basis at other times. All members of the College community are welcome to eat in the cafeteria in Burpee Center. Current meal hours and prices will be posted at the entrance to the cafeteria. Residence hall students are required to participate in a meal plan. A valid student ID card MUST be shown to enter the cafeteria. Commuter students and guests may purchase individual meals.

Meal Plans

The 19 meal plan offers breakfast, lunch and dinner on weekdays, and brunch and dinner on Saturdays and Sundays when the College is in session.

Upper-class students who opt for the 10 or 15 meal plans may choose their contracted number of meals from any of the meals times offered during the week (i.e., students are limited in number of meals served each week, not particular meals).

Meal cards will not permit access into the cafeteria once the number of meals contracted has been reached that week.

Looking for a different fare? Use your points or transfer a meal in the Lion’s Den. Menu items are made-to-order for all members of the Rockford College Community Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm during the fall and spring semesters. Snacks and to-go options make this a popular stop for Rockford College students during their day.

Requests for Meal Plan Changes and Exemptions

Requests for meal plan changes must be submitted no later than seven days after the beginning of each semester.

Residents who experience unexpected circumstances after the first week of the semester, may petition for an exemption or to have their meal plan altered. Only serious medical conditions and other circumstances which cannot be resolved after consulting with the Director of Chartwells Food Service will be considered as appropriate reasons for meal plan changes or exemptions.

Residential students with schedule conflicts that prevent them from eating in the cafeteria may contact the Food Service Office to arrange for box lunches. Students who are sick may arrange for a sick tray through the Lang Center for Health, Wellness, and Counseling or, if the Lang Center is closed, through the Office of Residence Life or their Resident Advisor.

Special Dietary Needs

If you have medical condition that requires a special diet, you are strongly encouraged to meet with the Food Services Director to review any special needs. Please provide your doctor's guidelines, in writing, so we can work together to meet her/his needs.
Chartwells Food Service also caters special events on campus as requested.
