LOVES PARK, Ill. – Thursday night was senior night for the baseball team as they welcomed the Beloit College Buccaneers to RiverHawks Stadium.  All nine of the seniors started for the Regents and they put on an excellent performance for the fans in the final home game of their collegiate careers.

On the mound it was senior Matt Entsminger (Miles, Iowa/East Central) getting the first pitching start of his collegiate career.  The senior threw five solid innings on the mound giving up just two runs.  Entsminger threw 87 pitches during his outing and struck out two batters.  Junior Sean Gillette (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) threw the final 1.2 innings of the game and picked up the first win of his collegiate career.  Gillette gave up just two hits, no runs and struck out 3 batters in his relief effort.

After being held scoreless for the first three innings of the game, the Rockford offense awoke during the final five innings scoring seven runs.  Daryn Streed (Belvidere, Ill./North) got the offense started for the Regents when he hit the first pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning for a double.  One batter later, senior Jake Nicholson (Stillman Valley, Ill./Stillman Valley) drove in Streed with an RBI single into right field.  In the bottom of the fifth inning, senior Kevin Miller (Elk Grove, Ill./Elk Grove) tied the game at 2-2 when he laced an RBI single to left field.  Rockford took its first lead of the evening when it scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.  After walks by seniors Curt Daughenbaugh (Dakota, Ill./Dakota) and Anthony Beres (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates), Jimmy Dercks (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) loaded the bases with a bunt single to third base.  Miller recorded his second RBI of the game when he got hit by a pitch scoring Daughenbaugh.  The big hit of the inning came courtesy of Streed who drove in two more runs on a one-out double into right field.  After the Buccaneers tied it at 5-5 in the top of the eighth inning, Rockford would answer in the bottom of the inning.  Jimmy Dercks broke the tie with his third hit of the game, an RBI double into right center.  Kipton Bucey (Byron, Ill./Stillman Valley) drove in the final run for the Regents with an RBI single to left center making it a 7-5 ballgame.  Rockford held Beloit scoreless in the top of the ninth inning to win its tenth consecutive game.

The baseball team will go on the road to play a doubleheader against Benedictine University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.  The Regents need to win both games to win the Northern Athletics Conference Championship outright and secure the #1 seed in the NAC Tournament next week.  Rockford would share the NAC Championship with a split on Saturday afternoon.
