Rockford College men, women drop season openers

Rockford College dropped its season opener with a 96-72 fall at Clarke University on Tuesday.

Despite hitting 10 3-pointers, Rockford College shot 38 percent in the game compared with Clarke’s 57 percent.

Robert Malone (19 points), Paul Hall (16) and Tory Minnifield (13) scored in double figures for the Regents.

Illinois Valley 64, Rock Valley 61: Rock Valley College suffered a home loss despite a 21-point night from Deric Branch.

Jaylen Larry added 11 points for RVC (3-4), while Jeron Turner grabbed 10 rebounds. Branch also had three steals.

Rock Valley College led 32-29 at halftime.

Women
Illinois Valley 72, Rock Valley College 58:
The Golden Eagles took their first loss of the season at home Tuesday.

RVC (3-1) trailed 27-21 at halftime before Illinois Valley finished the game with a 45-37 second-half run. Illinois Valley shot 43 percent in the game compared with RVC’s 34 percent.

Cierra Morris led RVC with 17 points, while Nicole Plum (14 points) and Jerica Morris (10) also scored in double figures. Lindsay Lengjak had 11 rebounds.

Shannon Washington’s 30 points paced Illinois Valley.

St. Ambrose University 75, Rockford College 64: Rockford College got off to a slow start, trailing 36-23 at halftime, and couldn’t catch up.

Britney Curry led the Regents (0-1) with 24 points, while Megan Lawler followed with 18. Nicole Lawler grabbed four steals.
