Assistant Professor, Special Education

Summary:

Tenure-track position in the Education Department; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in teacher preparation program; Assistant Professor rank; day and evening courses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

-Teach full-time load of classes in special education area, day and evening classes on campus and possibly future off-campus sites

-Serve as advisor for undergraduate and master level graduate students

- Assist in maintaining program professional accreditation through ISBE, as well as academic accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission

- Work as part of the Education Unit with the guidance of the Unit Head to coordinate and manage curriculum, courses, texts, and standard assessments

- Coordinate instruction and clinical experiences in accordance with special education standards

-Demonstrate knowledge, values, and skills in working with faculty, staff, and students with diverse backgrounds including academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation, and disabilities

Education and Experience:

-Master's degree in Education with five years classroom experience

- PhD or EdD preferred

-Licensed to teach courses in Special Education

-Classroom teacher experiences in special education

-Active involvement in professional organizations

-College level teaching experience preferred

-Must be able to attend meetings and events outside normal working hours

Qualifications:

-Evidence of strong verbal and written communication skills

-Demonstration of teaching effectiveness

-Understanding of diverse populations

-Evidence of scholarly abilities

- Evidence of professional development

Physical Demands:

- Ability to travel to off-campus sites for supervision and community outreach
