Career Day connects local high school students with area professionals, Nov. 7

Rockford, Ill., – The Rockford University Economics, Business and Accounting department is hosting its annual a Career Day on Thursday, November 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for approximately 200 area high school juniors and seniors. The event will be held in the Burpee Center’s Regents Hall on the Rockford University Campus, 5050 East State Street, Rockford.

More than 40 volunteers from area companies and organizations will be joining the students to share first-hand experiences about a wide variety of career options. Volunteers, including Winnebago County State’s Deputy Attorney David Kulinkus, District 205’s Chief of Communication and Community Empowerment Earl Dotson, and Pam Clark Reidenbach, director of Rockford University’s Northern Illinois Center for Nonprofit Excellence, will help students learn more about professions in Accounting/ finance, Education, Engineering, Health Care, Human Resources, International Business, Law, Management, Marketing, Non Profit Organizations, and Economics. Several university faculty and alumni are also serving as career volunteers for the event.

Speaking at the event will be Director of Career Services at Rockford University Maurice West, who will address developing a career path; Michael King, leader of the professional and executive search division at Workplace Staffing will cover the importance of networking; and Ginnie Weckerly, human resources director of Goodwill Northern Illinois, will speak about the best way to present yourself to an employer. Other topics discussed through the day will include how to achieve the position you want and the skills and education needed to achieve your goal.

Participating area high schools include: Auburn, East, Guilford, Jefferson, Rockford Christian, Roosevelt, Harlem, and Beloit Memorial.
