ACT and TAP programs help students meet rising state standards

Rockford, Ill. – The Learning Resource Center at Rockford College is offering a new program to help those interested in pursuing a career in education. The program is designed to fully prepare high school students or those in their first year of college to take the required TAP (Tests of Academic Proficiency) and ACT Plus Writing exams.

The State of Illinois requires an ACT Plus Writing Exam composite score of 22 or passing of the TAP in order to enroll in college education courses in Illinois. Rockford College is offering two intensive courses for college and high school students to prepare students for these exams. Additional tutoring is also available. Discounts may apply to students registering to Rockford College.

  • ACT Courses are held from 9 am - 3 p.m.; June 17-21; July 15-19; and August 12-16. Cost is $350 and includes lunch, materials, activities.
  • TAP Course are held from 9 - 11 am; June 24 – 28; July 22- 26; and August 19-23. Cost is $200 and includes all materials.

The ACT/TAP preparation programs have been developed in collaboration with Rockford Public School District 205 to assist area students with their desires to enter the teaching profession. RPS Director of College and Career Readiness David J. Carson adds, "The Rockford Public School District is thrilled to partner with Rockford College to support Rockford area students in their pursuit of a career in education and are excited about this initial step of promoting access to a teaching license based on their performance on the ACT/TAP.”

The Rockford College Learning Center (RCLC) is a service of Rockford College offering academic support to members of the community. Since being established in 1952, the Center has provided remedial and enrichment programs for more than 30,000 people from ages 4-72. The RCLC emphasizes quality teaching with a strong commitment to aid each student in attaining academic potential while directing the student towards independent learning and improved personal achievement.
