Rockford College Learning Center hosts an array of academic classes and camps for children ages 4-18 with private tutoring for adults. All classes and camps will be held at the Rockford College Starr Science building, 108B on the Rockford College campus, 5050 East State Street.
Academic classes range from the L.E.A.P. program for ages 4-6, to ACT preparation for high school students. The L.E.A.P. program is an early reading class that provides for each child’s individual needs. Students will learn the alphabet, phonics, sight words, basic reading skills and literature activities. ACT preparation reviews English, math, science and reading in preparation for the ACT exam. Test taking strategies greatly improve students’ scores. Other classes include mighty math, algebra, and private tutoring.
Accelerated classes for high school students include interesting and unique classes such as northern Illinois geology, project astronomy for the 21st century, research writing, math excursions, the art of surveying, creative writing, introduction to statistics, writing to publish, genetics in the classroom, and many others. The classes’ mission is to provide quality supplemental education high school students and prepare them for college.
Day camps include SUMMIT Discover Day Camp and Learning Garden. SUMMIT is a summer day camp offering children going into grades 1 – 6 a week of activities carefully designed to encourage learning in a stimulating, fun environment. Classes include crime lab chemistry, LEGO® engineering, all that glitters, fun with fitness, fossils, and aquatic adventures. Learning Garden is an academic camp for gifted students performing above grade level. Classes include aspiring authors, math minds, castle life, fun with poetry, and reading stars.
Fall programs: now through December 8, 2012
Winter programs: January 5 – March 23, 2013
Spring programs: April 13 – May 18, 2013
Summer sessions begin June and July
Summer accelerated classes for high school students will be held during the summer of 2013. Academic day camps begin on July 8, 2013 and August 5, 2013.
