ROCKFORD, Ill. – On Thursday, D3baseball.com released its inaugural All-Region Teams for the 2012 season. D3baseball.com has been releasing All-American Teams for the past five seasons, but had not selected All-Region teams until this season. Rockford College senior shortstop Jimmy Dercks (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) was selected as the 1st Team All-Midwest Region shortstop. Dercks becomes the fourth Regent student-athlete to earn postseason recognition from d3baseball.com and the first since the spring 2010 season.
Dercks concluded his collegiate career with an outstanding season earning recognition from multiple outlets. The senior was named Northern Athletics Conference Position Player of the Week and also selected as the shortstop for the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week for his performance during the week of April 9-15, 2012. During that week Dercks had 17 hits for a .586 average including multiple three-hit and four-hit games. The senior captain slugged .966 with 8 doubles, a home run and 13 RBI. Just after the conclusion of the regular season Dercks was named the Rockford College Male Athlete of the Year for his performance on the field this season. Then earlier this week, he was voted the 1st Team All-NAC shortstop by the head coaches in the conference and now has concluded the week with 1st Team All-Midwest Region honors.
The Kaukauna native had a stellar four-year career in Regent uniform capped off with exceptional final season. His .513 on-base percentage was tops in the NAC and his .430 batting average was second in conference only behind at that time, the NCAA Division III leader. Dercks’ .608 slugging percentage was second in the NAC and he was the only player in the conference to have a batting average over .400, an on-base percentage over .500 and a slugging percentage over .600. His 23 walks to just 7 strikeouts as the Rockford leadoff hitter were best in the NAC of any player with at least 15 walks. Dercks finished his career as the all-time assist leader at Rockford College with 457 assists; as well as, the all-time hits leader with 228. His 228 hits also gives him the second most hits in a career in the Northern Athletics Conference just 2 hits behind the career leader despite having 34 fewer at bats.
