Rockford, Ill., – With more than 30 education courses to choose from, area teachers may want to consider a little summer school of their own. There is still time to enroll for a wide variety of summer courses designed to help teachers earn additional certifications and endorsements in areas like Early Childhood Education, Special Education, English as a Second Language (ESL)/Bilingual, or Reading Specialist. Teachers may also begin course work towards a Master of Arts in Teaching degree (MAT.)

Summer classes are concentrated into short durations so teachers can take more than one class during summer. Classes vary in start date and class times with sessions beginning in early June. Classes cover a variety of areas and include history, politics, and philosophy of education, reading, gifted students, technology in the classroom, educational leadership, bilingual methods, educational research, psychological foundations, and students with disabilities. Students need not be enrolled in the MAT program to take individual classes.

Program Features:

  • Flexible programming allows for individuals to tailor plans to needs
  • Certifications can be completed in 12–24 months
  • Small class sizes with individual attention
  • Traditional campus setting with night classes for working adults
  • Competitive tuition and options for payment — take up to 4 courses before formally enrolling in a program
  • Dedicated and knowledgeable faculty and staff
  • Only MAT program of its kind in the region
