ROCKFORD, Ill. – Rockford College sophomore Jacob Arnold (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) was recognized late Monday night by the Northern Athletics Conference as the NAC Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Week.  He earned the honor based on his record setting performance at the Benedictine University Twilight Invitational last Friday night.  Arnold becomes only the third ever Rockford College track and field student-athlete to win the award and is the first since the spring of 2009.

Since joining the team at the beginning of this semester, Arnold has begun his assault on the Regents’ record books.  This past week at the Benedictine Twilight Invitational, he broke his own school records that he set early in the season in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes.  Arnold finished the 100 meter dash in 10.82 seconds which tied him for first place in the event in addition to breaking the school record.  His time of 10.82 seconds was only 0.01 seconds off of the Northern Athletics Conference record set back in April of 2009.  It is also the fastest 100 meter time by any student-athlete in the NAC and is currently tied for the 37th fastest time in Division III this outdoor season.  The sophomore also broke his own school record in the 200 meter dash.  Arnold raced to a ninth place finish in the event posting a time of 22.66 seconds.

Currently Arnold holds the Rockford College school records in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash and the distance medley relay.  The sophomore set the 400 meter dash record back on April 14th at the Warrior Invitational finishing the race in 50.44 seconds.  He was also part of the distance medley relay team that finished in second place and set the school record with a time of 11:23.82 at the Warrior Invitational.

The Regents outdoor track team will head the Northern Athletics Conference Championships this weekend.  The events will take place over a two day span with Friday’s events being held Benedictine University at 9:30 a.m. and Saturday’s events being held at Concordia University Chicago with a start time of 11:00 a.m.
