wROCKFORD, Ill. – Junior Daryn Streed (Belvidere, Ill./North) became the third Regent in three weeks to be recognized by by being named to its nationwide team of the week.  This is week’s team marks the eighth team thus far this season with Streed being selected as the designed hitter on the team for his performance at the plate which helped lead the Regents to a 3-1 week.

It was yet another stellar week at the plate for Streed.  The junior hit .588 during the week with 6 RBI and 5 runs scored.  He posted an impressive .611 on-base percentage for the week to compliment his .765 slugging percentage.  Streed’s best game came against Elmhurst College when he was perfect at the plate going 5-5 with 5 RBI, 4 runs scored and blasted a 3-run home run, his second of the season.

The Belvidere native has been extremely consistent in both driving in runs and getting on base in the middle of the Rockford lineup this season.  In his first year in a Rockford uniform, he leads the Regents and is second in the Northern Athletics conference with 37 RBI in just 32 games.  Streed is also tied for the team lead and is sixth in the Northern Athletics Conference with an impressive .395 batting average.  He is also second on the team and tied for ninth in the NAC with 45 hits.

In addition to his performances at the plate, Streed has also been very valuable to the Regents on the mound.  The junior is 4-1 so far this year collecting wins in both a starter’s role and coming out of the bullpen in relief.  He has compiled 18 strikeouts in 33.1 innings pitched.  Streed also earned his first save as a Regent this past Saturday when he threw 2 scoreless innings and struck out 3 batters to seal Rockford’s 2-0 win.

The baseball team’s next game is on Saturday, April 28th against the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors.  It will be pancreatic cancer awareness day as well on Saturday as the Regents will try to raise money to help combat the deadly disease.  Fans will be invited to take place in numerous activities throughout the day including a silent auction, raffles, a diamond dash, and a post game fire works display.  First pitch of the doubleheader will be at 3:00 p.m.
