ROCKFORD, Ill. – This Saturday, April 28th, the Rockford College baseball team will be doing its part to help fight pancreatic cancer. The Regents will be raising money to help fight back against this lethal illness when they host the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors at RiverHawks Stadium. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
Pancreatic Cancer is a very deadly disease that is estimated to fatally affect around 25,000 people this year. It is the 5th leading cause of cancer death in both the United States and Worldwide. The lack of a standard treatment available to fight it off makes it nearly always fatal. This is why it is so crucial that research continues so that one day we may finally put an end to an illness that drastically alters the lives of so many people.
All of the day’s events will be centered around the 3:00 p.m. baseball doubleheader. The Regents are currently playing their best baseball of the season and have moved into sole possession of first place in the Northern Athletics Conference. Winners of thirteen of their fifteen the Regents look to keep the momentum going against the Warriors on Saturday. Last season’s two games between the teams were decided by a total of 3 runs with Rockford coming out on top in both games.
In addition to being able to watch some of the great aforementioned baseball, there will be a full day of activities and events going on. The Regents will be sponsoring a raffle and a silent action auction which will take place throughout the day. Some of the larger items available to bid on are: signed sticks from the Chicago Blackhawks and Milwaukee Admirals, a team signed authentic Rockford IceHogs jersey and a Brian Urlacher signed football. Commemorative t-shirts with both the Rockford College and Wisconsin Lutheran College athletic logos will also be available for purchase. Between games of the doubleheader children will be invited into left field where they will be able to play catch with a Regent baseball player and after the completion of both games there will be a diamond dash in left field. After one lucky fan wins the diamond, all fans will be treated to a spectacular fireworks display.
All proceeds from the entire day will go to the National Pancreas Foundation. To learn more about pancreatic cancer or to find out how you can help make a difference please visit the National Pancreas Foundation’s website at www.pancreasfoundation.org.
