Outdoor Track Competes at Beloit Invitational

BELOIT, Wis. – This past Saturday the Rockford College track team took part in the Beloit College Invitation. It was the first time the Buccaneers have hosted an outdoor meet in 25 years making it an important event for all the participating teams. Both the men’s and women’s teams finished fourth at the meet. The women’s team recorded a team score of 70 points while the men’s team scored 44 points.
The women’s team had one of its strongest showings of the year winning 4 different events. Dani Buttel (Pecatonica, Ill./Pecatonica) had perhaps the strongest individual showing of any Regent at the meet. Buttel won the long jump with a jump of 4.78 meters and won the 100 meter dash setting a new school record with a time of 13.05 seconds. The junior also finished in 2nd place in the 200 meter dash posting a time of 27.48 seconds. Stephanie Tassone (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) was the other Regent to take home a first place finish with a distance of 9.38 meters in the triple jump. Barbara Duffy (Tampico, Ill./Prophetstown) also had a nice showing participating in the 100 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter dashes. Duffy’s best performance came in the 400 meter dash where she finished in second place with a time of 1:03.21. She also finished 6th in the 200 meter and 10th in the 100 meter with times of 28.52 seconds and 14.14 seconds respectively. The Regents 4x100 meter team also won its event and set a new school record in the process finishing with a time of 52.46 seconds.
The men’s team had some strong showing this past weekend as well. Jacob Arnold (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) continues to have an impressive spring recording two more top five finishes. Arnold finished 4th in the 200 meter dash and broke his own school record in the process as he posted a time of 22.92 seconds. The sophomore also finished 2nd in the 100 meter finishing with a time of 11.40 seconds. Freshman Carl Rapp (Union, Ill./Belvidere North) came in 2nd place in the 3000 meter steeplechase finishing the event in 10:36.92. Jason Springman (East Alton, Ill./East Alton-Wood River) and Amour Muro (Das es Salaam, Tanzania/Waterford) each ran strong placing 3rd and 4th in the 800 meter run with respective times of 2:07.63 and 2:08.45.
The outdoor track to will return to action this Friday evening when they take part in the Twilight Invitational hosted by Benedictine University. The action will begin at 4:00 p.m.
