LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford College offense continued its recent power surge at the plate scoring 20 runs for the third time in the team’s last five games.  The Regents have won all three of those games with all of them ending short of nine innings played.  Rockford’s 20-10 win over the Elmhurst College Bluejays marks the second straight win against the Bluejays and improves Rockford’s all-time record against them to 6-12.

Offensively the Regents used the long ball early and strung together hits later in the game to continually put pressure on the Elmhurst pitching staff.  After a pair of one-out singles by Kipton Bucey (Byron, Ill./Stillman Valley) and Kevin Miller (Elk Grove, Ill./Elk Grove) in the bottom of the first inning, junior Daryn Streed (Belvidere, Ill./North) would tie the game with a three-run home run to center field.  One batter later, Jake Nicholson (Stillman Valley, Ill./Stillman Valley) would give Rockford the lead with his team-high third home run of the year marking the first time this season that Rockford has hit back-to-back home runs.  An inning later, Rockford would continue to pour on more runs scoring four two-out runs in the bottom of the second inning.  Streed would single in the first run of the inning giving Rockford a 5-4 lead.  After a walk loaded the bases, Ryan Lesner (Algonquin, Ill./Harry D. Jacobs) would clear the bases with a three-run double down the left field line.  The Bluejays would not fly into the night sky quietly as they would again tie the game in the top of the third inning.  The Regents however would score four runs for the third straight inning to retake the lead once again.  Bucey would retake the lead for Rockford with a RBI single into center field.  Following a Kevin Miller sacrifice fly and a Streed RBI single, Lesner would drive in the final run of the inning on a double left center.  The Regents would add one more run in the fourth inning and three in the sixth giving them a 16-10 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.  After a Kevin Miller walk, Streed would single into right field for his fifth hit of the game.  Following a Nicholson sacrifice fly, Lesner would get his fifth RBI of the game on a single into left to field.  Pinch hitter Anthony Beres (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) would collect his first extra base hit of the year with an RBI double down the right field line making it a 19-10 lead.  Pinch hitter Kris Russell (Lacon, Ill./Midland) would drive in the final run on an infield single in-between the first and second baseman thus ending the game with a final score of 20-10.

The Regents threw four different pitchers in Wednesday afternoon’s game.  Kyle Pisano (Peru, Ill./LaSalle-Peru) made his first appearance of the season throwing 2.1 innings in relief to pick up the victory.  During his outing, Pisano allowed no runs on just three hits and struck out one batter.  Jordan Blair (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) also made his season debut throwing the final two-thirds of the top of the seventh inning.  Blair faced just three batters and recorded a strikeout for each of his two outs.

Offensively the Regents were able to rack up some very impressive numbers once again.  Streed went 5-5 with a home run, 5 RBI, and 4 runs scored.  He now leads the team with 33 runs batted in this season.  Lesner was an impressive 3-4 at the plate with 2 doubles, a walk, 5 RBI and a run scored.  Bucey scored 3 runs on a 2-4 hitting performance with a RBI.

The baseball team’s next games are on Friday, April 20th at 3:00 p.m. in Watertown, Wis. against Maranatha Baptist Bible College.  The Regents are 10-0 against Maranatha since joining the Northern Athletics Conference in fall of 2006.
