Dercks Earns Spot as Shortstop on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Senior shortstop Jimmy Dercks (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) was again recognized for his outstanding performance on the field last week, this time by D3baseball.com. Dercks was selected as the shortstop for the D3baseball.com Team of the Week for the week ending April 15, 2012. The senior becomes the second Regent in two weeks to earn a spot on the weekly team. He also becomes the first Rockford College position player and only the second position player from the Northern Athletics Conference to be selected to the team in its inaugural season.
Dercks had a monster week at the plate last week to help lead the Regents to a 6-1 week and move the team into a first place tie in the Northern Athletics Conference. The Kaukauna native and hit an astounding .586 with a .966 slugging percentage. He pounded out 17 hits during the week 9 of them for extra bases including 8 doubles and 1 home run. Out of his leadoff spot in the lineup, Dercks took advantage of what seemed like every opportunity he had to drive in runs as he recorded 13 RBI for the week. He also walked three times and only struck out once in his 29 official at bats. In the very first game of the week, Dercks tied the school record against Marian when he had 3 doubles in the opening game of the doubleheader. Dercks also recorded both a pair of 4-hit games and a pair of 3-hit games throughout the week.
This season could be one of best seasons of his career. Dercks has really responded well to hitting in the leadoff spot in the lineup during his final season in a Rockford College uniform. The senior leads the team in almost every major statistical category including: batting average (.410), on-base percentage (.488), slugging percentage (.581), at bats (105), hits (43), runs scored (32), doubles (11), triples (2), total bases (61), assists (84) and walks (15)
Dercks has put together a very impressive career as a 4-year starter at shortstop for Rockford. The senior currently hold a career batting average of .377 to compliment a .454 on-base percentage. He has recorded more walks (78) than strike outs (69) throughout his career as a Regent including a 3-1 walk to strikeout ratio this season. Dercks currently has 203 hits which is just 7 hits shy of the school record. Of his 203 hits he has 36 doubles, 10 triples and 10 home runs. He has also driven in a total of 131 runs while scoring 125 runs.
The Regents are currently 13-14 on the season and are 9-3 in Northern Athletics Conference putting them in a tie for first place with 10 conference games remaining. Rockford has now gone 13-5 since returning from its spring trip including two wins over teams ranked in the top 25. The Regents will look to keep the momentum going when they host Elmhurst College in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, April 18th at 2:30 p.m. at RiverHawks Stadium. Rockford will return to NAC play on Friday, April 20th when they travel to Watertown, Wis. for a doubleheader against Maranatha Baptist Bible College. First pitch on Friday is set for 3:00 p.m.
