Rockford, Ill. – Rockford College’s 158th Commencement Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 12, at 2:00 p.m., at the Coronado Theatre in downtown Rockford. Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Management Studies, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Arts in Teaching and Master of Business Administration degrees will be awarded to approximately 400 students.
Addressing the graduates at this year’s commencement ceremonies will be Erin Brockovich, subject of the Oscar-winning biographical film "Erin Brockovich,” and president of Brockovich Research & Consulting. In 1996, as a result of the largest direct action lawsuit of its kind and spearheaded by Ms. Brockovich and Ed Masry, Pacific Gas & Electric was forced to pay out the largest toxic tort injury settlement in U.S. history - $333 million in damages to more than 600 Hinkley, California residents. The story and eventual film detailing Ms. Brockovich’s exhaustive investigation uncovered that utility giant Pacific Gas & Electric had been poisoning the small town of Hinkley for over 30 years helped make "Erin Brockovich” a household name.
As president of Brockovich Research & Consulting, she is currently involved in numerous environmental projects worldwide and is one of the most requested speakers on the international lecture circuit. In addition, she has requests for her help in ground water contamination complaints in every state of the U.S., Australia and other international locations; she is currently working on cases in California, Texas, Florida, Michigan, Illinois and Missouri.
Tickets are required for attendance. Due to space constraints, tickets are limited to degree candidates and their guests. Tickets will not be available at the door of the Coronado Theatre.
